Registration and Rules for the Waterfowl Festival’s Calling Contests
Registration:
Onsite: Registration opens Friday and Saturday and begins one hour prior to the preliminary rounds in each division. To register, go to the High School Auditorium lobby.
Fees & Divisions:
Senior Division (callers of any age):
- Registration Fee for all contests: $100
Junior Division (callers who have not yet turned 17):
- Registration Fee for all contests: $25
Team Contests:
- Registration Fee: $100/team
About the Contests:
World Championship Goose Calling Contest ® (Jr. & Sr. Divisions) This is the Champion title that all goose callers strive to achieve. Since 1976 this contest has attracted the top callers in the US & Canada and easily boasts the best competition in the nation. A caller may be named World Goose Champion up to three times, after which he will be retired from World Goose competition. After achieving the World Champion Goose Calling title, a caller is qualified to compete in the World Goose Calling Champion of Champions Contest, which occurs every five years. The Champion of Champions Contest will be held in 2021. The object is to portray a vision in the Judge’s mind of getting the attention of geese at a long distance off, calling them closer, losing them and calling them back, then landing them in the decoys. This is the pinnacle of Goose Calling Contests, crowning the World Champion of Goose Calling.
World Championship Live Goose Calling Contest® Introduced in 2006, this contest embraces the vocabulary of geese in their natural habitat. Throw out the clinical routines of typical contests, close your eyes and picture geese flying overhead, feeding in a field or bobbing on water. These are the sounds you will hear. For the callers, their object is to sound as realistic as possible, without much guidelines or restrictions. This contest was designed for the caller to imitate the sounds of the Canada goose, not just vocally. The judges will listen to the caller and judge based on what they think a Goose sounds like. With all different sounds of the Canada goose, this leaves lots of room for interpretation. Those that are fancier than a goose will be marked as a mistake.
World Championship Live Duck Calling Contest® (Jr. & Sr. Divisions) Beginning as an exhibition competition in 2003, the Live Duck was met with much success and continues to draw a crowd. Always an exciting contest, the callers enjoy the freedom of this contest. Callers must simply sound like real live ducks as heard in the wild. Becoming one of the more popular versions of contests across the nation, this contest hands out the world championship title, that duck call companies can build a reputation off. Those callers are to sound like ducks, and those that are fancier than ducks will be marked as a mistake.
World Championship Team Live Duck Calling Contest The World Championship Team Live Duck Calling Contest follows the same rules and format as the individual contest, but callers compete in teams and build a routine together. World Championship Team Goose Calling Contest The World Championship Team Goose Calling Contest follows the same rules and format as the individual contest, but callers compete in teams and build a routine together. Each team will have 60 seconds to replicate the sounds of a flock of ducks, with the object being to sound as realistic as possible. There is no limit on the number of teams person can enter and no general structure or limit to what one team can do.
