Stacey Sass retired from a 32 year long career teaching in both high school and community college art programs. She is now focused on the wonderful challenge of creating watercolors “from life”. Whether painting while boating, camping or in front of a seafood still life, it is the aqueous nature of the water media that fits her aesthetic preference for loose, expressive imagery. Many of her paintings are created while sitting in her anchored boat.

Presently living on the eastern shore of Maryland, she is active in several art organizations throughout the state and competes in numerous plein air competitions each year. Stacey earned her MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art in 1987 and continues to study with master watercolor artists.

Patti Lucas Hopkins is a Maryland Eastern Shore native and has spent over twenty-five years painting rural landscapes, bay views, figures in the landscape and still life.  Patti paints with oil and works to capture scenes in her natural surroundings. Patti lives on her farm on the Little Choptank River with her husband, dogs, chickens and surrounded by wild geese, deer, fox and wild turkeys. She takes inspiration from the expansive landscape, the changing season, the cycle of the crops, migrations and human activities such as working the water, sailing and gardening.

Maryland oil painter, Jane Knighton, is a Baltimore native. She considers herself a lifelong artist beginning in preschool, surrounded by family and friends who were painters, sculptors, and designers. As a result of these influences, she had a successful career as an Art Educator for the Howard County Public Schools System in Maryland. She holds advanced degrees in both Art Education and Art Therapy.

In retirement, Jane currently devotes her pursuits to painting full-time both outdoors (plein air) and in the studio. A variety of subject matter keeps her learning and evolving in her work. She prefers painting from observation and finds plein air painting gives her the opportunity to be outdoors, traveling throughout the States and abroad. Realism is not her goal but rather an expression of fleeting moments with color and mark making. As she stands behind her easel responding to the unfolding view, she experiences a freedom and a clearing of the mind. Time and place evaporate.

Whether it is painting in her extensive gardens in the rolling hills of Central Maryland or traveling to distant places, Jane finds outdoor painting to be an exciting exploration. Adventures in this creative journey are before her in endless possibilities; presented by the artistic process, the people she encounters, and the images she paints. She believes the power of art can be transformative in ourselves and our world.

Jane exhibits and participates in plein air events across the Mid-Atlantic Region, earning numerous awards and honors. She is especially proud to have earned the Gino Award in Ellicott City. She has been published in the Baltimore Sun Papers, Tidewater Times, and featured in Plein Air Magazine, Outdoor Painter. As a way of giving back to the community, she donates to local painting organizations and charities. Jane is a member of Mid-Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association, Frederick Plein Air Artists, Working Artist Forum, Easton, and Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis. She is represented at Gallery 322, Frederick, Maryland.

She currently resides in Glenwood, Maryland.

Nature- water, trees, and animals, sometimes juxtaposed with manmade structures; are reoccurring subjects of my work. Watercolors bring a special glow to a painting. The fluidity of the paints and the development of shapes and colors are always intriguing to me. I have particularly enjoyed experimenting with painting on different surfaces. I vary paper textures, and also paint on canvas and boards specifically prepared to be used for watercolor. I find that each surface enhances slightly different characteristics of the pigments and thus brings out subtle variations in the nature and expression of the subject.

When out on the Chesapeake Bay and its Creeks, my sketch pad is always with me and these value studies are then transformed into watercolor paintings back in my studio. Out on the trails of Talbot County I enjoy painting “en Plein Air” I participate in many local shows throughout the Eastern Shore. My work is in several collections throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Northeastern U.S.

I was born in Washington, D.C. and have lived in the Mid-Atlantic all my life. I relocated to Easton, Maryland twelve years ago to live in a vibrant art community. My favorite medium is oil painting. I particularly enjoy painting landscapes and flowers, and still life. I also enjoy pastel painting and collage.

My collage work almost always tells a story. Many of them are large, and some have short poems written for them as well. I also like to combine small crystals, wire and sometimes pastel into my collage work.

I am always inspired to learn, explore, and continue to grow in all three mediums.

Maryellyn Lynott creates paintings that evoke the ruggedness, elegance and idyllic simplicity of life around the water on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Maryellyn has studied painting since the age of 8, beginning with her tutelage under Dan Mistrik — centering on the Old Masters approach to light and blocking — and continuing later as an apprentice to the eclectic Giancarlo Impiglia in New York City. She earned her BFA in Painting and Illustration from Carnegie Mellon.

Because of her wide-ranging pallet of artistic skills and training, Maryellyn’s talents have been tapped for many applications, including stage set design, large scale murals, museum experiences, and commercial advertising. However, throughout her career, her focus has stayed true to her work, with many pieces from her painting portfolio gracing private homes and several public settings. In the past two years, she has returned exclusively to her expressions on canvas. In 2020, she opened a new studio in Easton, putting her closer to the waterways and seasons that inspire her work.

Rhonda Ford lives in Easton, Md.  where she is active in the Working Artists Forum and the Plein Air Painters of the Chesapeake Bay.  Enjoying plein air painting has given her the opportunity to combine a love of outdoors and painting all in one.  Rhonda has been participating in many local events as well as being juried into Plein Air Easton the last two years.  Having been a spectator at the Waterfowl Festival since long ago it is an honor to be able to a part of the festival as an exhibiting artist.

Linda is an internationally recognized fine arts professional. She was raised in Delaware County, Pennsylvania but has lived in many states. The first solo exhibit of her paintings opened on her 21st birthday at the Widener Museum of Art in Chester, Pennsylvania. Her realistic watercolors and oils reflect the Brandywine tradition that surrounded Linda in her youth. Landscapes are her first love and primary subject matter, however, people, animals, flowers, and still lifes are painting subjects as well.

Linda has enjoyed a long career as a professional artist and has been commissioned by a variety of professional and private clients such as the Hershey Trust, Hilton, Franklin Mint and Sterling Vineyards to do paintings for them of this country, Europe and Africa. These works hang in public and private collections here and around the world. The largest commission to date has been that of a 98 foot by 7 foot mural on the rotunda ceiling of the Association of Baptists Worldwide Evangelism headquarters in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. The mural depicts 32 different countries where the mission is active. Working overhead, using two levels of scaffolding, it took 5 years to complete this remarkable oil painting. It is open to the public for view by request.

Linda enjoys her life as a professional artist. She is currently the president of the Baltimore Watercolor Society and enjoys teaching classes and workshops at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts. She also hosts 3 destination workshops each year. Annapolis, Maryland is her home with her husband and little dog Alex. Linda often says,

“I’m happy when I paint…I hope that shows!”

Pat Lang, a native Marylander, living in Easton, is primarily a self-taught artist. She began oil painting in her late teens, learning through trial and error; visiting galleries to study famous works; and reading art instruction publications. As she experimented on techniques new to her, she used these experiences to master her own personal realistic style. Pat has exhibited in numerous art shows throughout Maryland.

Hometown: Ridgely, MD

Thomas’s early studies were at the Torpedo Factory, Alexandria, VA and The Corcoran School of Art, Washington DC and Northern VA Community College. A travel study tour of Italy, prompted Thomas to take up watercolor.

With the Plein Air movement she returned to oil painting and juried into Plein Air Easton 2018. One of her exhibit pieces was purchased for a permanent collection by The Avalon Foundation.

Thomas is a Partner in The Artists’ Gallery in Chestertown, MD. She continues to enjoy painting “en plein aire” up and down the eastern seaboard, capturing the beautiful light of the landscapes and waterways.
